The smoking Jamacan Flash with his two Gold Medals.
On June 24, 2015,
Daniel, the "flash" and his Hershey
Blaze Track Club went down to York, Pa. to run against the Trojan Track Club.
The Trojan Track Club welcomed many young athletes in York, PA who want to
learn the sport of track & field in a fun, competitive, and social environment.
Daniel ran in three
events.
The 100 Meter Run:
Daniel has it in his mind that he is a short
distance runner. So he was signed up to run the 100 Meter Dash. No, he is not UsainBoltbut
if running the 100 Meter and running the 4X100 Meter relay makes him happy then good for
him.
He is at the age
where girls and boys notice each other. Two girls walked up to him and asked him if he is a long distance runner
after Daniel ran the 1600 Meter Run.Daniel's replied, "I am a short and long distance runner!"
He might be Jamaican
but he is not UsainBolt.
Too bad I am not 54 years younger. Who am I kidding? I will be just as
slow as I am now.
Daniel is preparing to
run the
800 Meter Run
The 800 Meter Run:
He ran the 800 M Run in 2 Minutes and 59 seconds just like the old Jamaican
Flash, placing first.
The Starter blocked the view of Daniel
finishing his 1600 Meter Run.
The 1600 Meter
Run:
He ran the 1600 Meters (1 Mile) in 7 Minutes, 25 Seconds. This distance is
what Middle School and High School runs.USATF runs the 1500 Meter that is shorterthan WPIAA events in Middle and High School.
The "Flash"
dominates the 800 M and the 1500 M in Eastern Pennsylvania. He will have to
work to gain his dominant status in the Region. Next for Daniel will be the USATF Region 2
Meet in Slippery Rock in Western Pennsylvania.Wish him well.
The USATF Jr Olympics started on June 20-21, 2015 at Moravian College, in Bethlehem, Pa. 18018. Daniel ran the 1500 Meter with a time of 6 Minutes, 23.79 Seconds taking 3rd place. The Hershey Blaze;
One thing Coach Alan Paynter told the children last week before this meet started. He said to the children that all they have to do is their best. All you have to do is do well against the people at the meet. Remember that many people can beat them but the only people that matter are the children running at that meet, against them.
Hello folks:
I wanted to take this opportunity to express how wonderful it was spending time with the kids in Bethlehem this weekend. Aside from the great performances I think o was most pleased with the kind words from other adults and teams about our kids. People have really come to respect and appreciate the kids of HBTC. A class act they all were.
Jen and I just arrived in Delaware dropping Maliyah off at at the beach for some rest this week and I am still awake- so I sat down and started counting results and thought I'd share what I found:
49 kids have qualified to advance to Region 2 Championships at Slippery Rock. Amazing!
We had a total of 20 1st place finishes, 15 2nd place and 18 3rd place. We also had 36 place between 4th and 6th place. All of whom advance. This brings us a grand total of roughly 77 medals earned at the MidAtlantic USATF Junior Olympics!!
I am totally through the roof. This is the biggest showing of HBTC and more than we could ever have imagined when we started the club 2 years ago. I want to thank you and your kids for the fantastic ride that they are taking me on. They are the best!!
In signing off. You'll hear more tomorrow as I will not be at practice or the York meet this week. I am away for work until Friday.

The Plainfield , NJ Track and Field Meet
This was a track meet from Hell on May 31. 2015. When I got
Daniel to the meet, I found out that I
had to put Daniel out of the car at the entrances. I told him to look for his
coach. Then I had to find a parking space. I finally found a space 3 blocks
away in a residence neighborhood.It
took me some time to get back to the track meet on foot. It was hot and humid. Daniel
was sitting in the stands when I came into the stadium.I asked where was his coach? He said he did
not know.
Mean while some children looking like they were his age,
started walking across the field toward the 1500 Meter line. I stopped one
person and asked what race was starting. She said the 1500 meter.
Next I asked
some 7 year old on Daniel's team where the team was sitting. It took some time
before she understood what I was asking. I had to run about 70 yards to see the
coach and get Daniel's Bib. He did not have it. His wife did.I finally got his bid and then had to run to
the other side of the field near the other goal line. The officials allowed me
to give Daniel his Bib and we found some pins to put Daniel's bib on.I was not allow to put his bib on him.
Somehow he lost one of the pins and he had to run looking like the "homeless.
"
Daniel started the 1500 Meter and came in dead last, about
200 meters from the next to the last person runner. Not only
was this depressing but it was also embarrassing. The Plainfield, N.J. track meet was for
children who are no less than National Class Runners and have been running all
winter.Daniel's time was 6 Minute 30
Seconds. I was looking for 6 Minutes. This
day, Daniel was not in their class.
Then if the situation was not bad enough, it got worse. The Jamaicans
in New Jersey stopped me and ask what did I mean by the "Jamaican
Flash?" I pointed to Daniel. They told me that Jamaicans do not come in
last. I said I know and kept on walking. I broughta person with me who was after me for months about see Daniel run in a meet. I brought that person to the meet to see this
disaster unfold. The heat was too much
for her and she fell out.Now I have to
problems on me, getting Daniel ready for the 800 Meter and getting this lady
some medical attention.
You think that is all of my problems!Clouds started rolling in and the rain
started. Can you believe that the meet director ran 4 heats of a parent/coaches
relay at that time instead of trying to get the meet over before the weather
became worse? Then the meet resumed after running 4 worthless heats. It
was only 15 minutes later, did the weather warning alarm go off. That canceled the meet without Daniel running
the 800M.
Daniel and Ifound
the car and picked up our sick guest. We
got in line and it took us 30 minutes to leave the stadium area.On the way home, on I-78 and I-81, we ran into very bad weather including
rotating cloud on top of the Blue Mountain Chain. The wind was bad and I could
not see. I am just glad that the rotating clouds did not come off the mountain
and cross I-78 or I-81.
This was my track meet from hell!
Central Pennsylvania Youth Track Meet
Kathy Derr came to State College, Pa. from Washingtonville, Pa to see Daniel. She drove about 100 miles in a beat up car to help him win.
State College Area High South Track Facility
June 6, 2015, Daniel and I attended the CentralPennsylvania Track Meet at the State College
Area High South Track Facility. These are the best athletes in track and field
in the Central Pa. area.
I was watching the time clock when Daniel passed by. When he cross the line, the clock said 3:10 not 3:13. Daniel won so why bother protesting. Besides it cost up to $50.00 to protest.
Darnell taking Daniel's picture as he came off the track at Penn State.
Result of this meet!
We found that we can beat most of the people in Central Pa. but we got to get our speed up to be national champions.
