Daniel jumping his first place tie at 7 feet 10 inches
The 2014 Central Dauphin Track and Field Camp is for children from second thru eighth grade.
The camp is more of an overall introduction to most track and field events. Head Coach Tom Eck of the Central Dauphin Rams conducts this camp every year.
Coach Henry Klugh, his Distance coach was at the camp and he is very well known in the Middle distance / Distance fraternity. Coach Rick Leuschner showed Daniel the correct way to hurdle. Rich was Stephanie Tulloch's coach when she was at CD High School. Both have trained multiple state qualifiers as well as state medalists. So Daniel Tulloch has received great coaching.
The flash is only in third grade but rans long distance with a few of the assistant coaches. They found that it was not easy to keep up with Daniel.
This camp ran from Tuesday May 27 to Friday May 30, 2014 rain or shine. We had days of rain and cold. The first day was no fun at all. The best day was the last day, the day of the track meet.
Softball Throw 2nd place 61 feet 4 inches
This camp taught Daniel how to set up his starting block for a running event.
In USATF, Daniel will not have to use starting blocks until he reaches the 11 and 12 Division. He will be ready for it when the time comes.
The 100 Meter Run using starting blocks for the first time, 18.6 Seconds.
Daniel running the 50 Meter Hurdles for the first time in exhibition. His time 13.4 seconds .
2014 Central Dauphin Camp 400 Meter Run
This video is most of Daniel's 400 Meter Run. He got off to a slow start as he always does. Then he plays catch up though out the race. As the leader hit the wall (got tired around the 200 Meter mark) Daniel closed in but as my camera battery failed, I could not video the end of the race. The winner's time was 1 Minute 33 Seconds. Daniel's time was 1 Minute 33.5 Seconds. I dispute Daniel's time because the race was extremely close at the end. I believe that it should have been more like 1 Minute 33.2 Seconds. But a second place is a second place.
Conclusion of the Camp
At the moment, Daniel is very competitive against people his age in Central Dauphin. Coach Tom Eck would like to have him in 6 years if he is still coaching and if Daniel is still running. But we are looking for Daniel to be competitive on a National and World Level, not on a local or state level.
To increase his speed, Daniel must concentrate on his arm movement and increase his stride when he runs. It appears that he gets excited and forgets his training when he runs.
Next week is the Art Madric First State Outdoor Track Classic at Caravel Academy in Bear, Delaware.
